Contact is a song that only appeared in the musical version of RENT. It represents the sex lives of the couples and is performed by the full company.
(The COMPANY forms two main groups. As the music begins, a group of dancers start a sensual life and death dance, while a group of actors gather around a table center stage to speak words of passion which punctuate the dancing. Eventually, the actors converge on the table and cover themselves with a white sheet, while moving to the music.)
GROUP A (ROGER, MARK, JOANNE, BENNY)
Please don't stop please
Please don't stop stop
Stop stop stop don't
Please please please please
GROUP B (MIMI, COLLINS, MAUREEN, ANGEL)
MIMI, MAUREEN & COLLINS
COLLINS, MIMI & MAUREEN
Red, red -- please
MIMI & ANGEL
MAUREEN, COLLINS & MIMI
Fluid no fluid no contact yes
Fire fire burn--burn yes!
No latex rubber rubber
Fire latex rubber latex bummer
(The music explodes into a fevered rhythmic heat as ANGEL is revealed in a lone spotlight, dancing wildly.)
Today for you
Tomorrow for me
You I love
I love you
(The music dies as ANGEL vanishes.)
Where'd it go?
I think I missed
Don't get pissed
It was bad for me -- was it bad for you?
